The
people of India are well aware the way Indian Armed forces were neglected, year
after year, since the Independence.
Whether it is pay and benefits, pension or other basic-necessities, the Armed forces personal have always given a raw deal by the consecutive Government at the Center. Now, we got another situation in our hands, and it is the One Rank One Pension or OROP. So the question is, why One Rank One Pension is Important for the Veterans of the Armed forces of India.
What is One Rank One Pension?
You
have certainly heard about OROP. No, this is not a trend my friend. Well, let
me explain this to you. One Rank One Pension, simply means, same amount of
“pension” given to all personals who have served for the same length and
retired with same rank.
The
armed forces are ready for the sacrifice whenever the nation needs. Yet, a
soldier is the one who is the most neglected. For all the sacrifices that we
make, we are honored with “Distinguished Service Medals” and sometimes with
“Gallantry Medals”. We do wear the medals with great pride and respect.
During our active service, we are given many facilities as per service requirements, and then, we retire. After a long, dedicated and disciplined service to the Nation, all the existing privileges and facilities are withdrawn immediately. Leaving the soldier with a meager pension, that too divided in different categories. Sometimes so less, that they were seen begging on the streets before the year 1971.
The hard earned Honor of Medals remains with us for maintenance only. Many states do even respect our dedicated service to the nation.
One Rank One Pension would be a great incentive to the aged Armed forces personals, who have sacrificed their valuable youthful life for the nation. Be it war or a natural disaster, they stood their ground like an unbreakable force. Many of them may not be alive (when I publish this article) to receive the incentive. However, the Defense Minister’s assurance on 10th of July 2015 on this context is very encouraging. Hope this issue finds a satisfying solution at the earliest.
Thank you.
